How the Simone Cuff Got Her Name

2/26/2020

Picture
People often ask us how we come up with the names for our cuffs. They are all named after the inspiration for the piece. This beauty is named for the fiercely talented Simone Biles.

Simone Biles is the most decorated American gymnast and a true inspiration. This cuff bracelet design symbolizes Olympic rings in honor of the many achievements this amazing young woman has accomplished.

When you feel like something is too difficult or overwhelming just imagine what she has endured and persevered to achieve the countless honors that she has.

We are all capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for. Even though she may seem almost super human with her incredible strength and skill, she is also a woman just making her way through life.

Inspiring? I’d say so! Who inspires you? ❤️🤍💙🔥💫

Minivan Mom Confessions

I'll never forget the day my husband traded in my Audi A4 for a Honda Odyssey minivan!

What is something you SWORE you would never do but now do on the regular?

When I was in my early 30s I swore I would never try  Botox. I remember shrieking in disgust, all high-and-mighty with my smooth skin, "Can you BELIEVE girls are injecting POISON into their foreheads to get rid of wrinkles?! I'm never doing that!" Fast forward ten years & I've got my injector on speed dial.

How to Cut Your Own Hair

What do you do when your hair is a grown-out shapeless mess of split ends and your stylist is booked solid for the foreseeable future? Book an appointment and wait patiently for your stylist’s next availability? Chance it with a stylist you have never been to before? Those are both good, responsible choices, but if you’re a rebel like me, you go for instant satisfaction & cut it yourself.

Everyone will tell you not to cut your own hair, but if you want to do a quick touch up and scissors don’t scare you, you can safely do your own cut at home. Just follow these steps & enjoy your fresh new cut.

1. Watch All the Tutorials

There are lots of different styles & techniques for cutting your own hair and a gazillion YouTubers who will show you what to do. Do a quick Google search for the type of cut you are looking for and then watch several tutorials for the look you are going for. Be sure to watch more than one video and look for someone whose hair is a similar texture to yours.

My hair is long & quite thick. I wanted to cut a few inches off the bottom and clean up the top layers. I watched several tutorials before I found one that I was sure would work on thick hair.

2. Wait 24 Hours

This isn't mandatory, but a 24-hour cooling off period is recommended to be sure you really need to cut your hair and are not suffering from a bad hair day or heavy dose of PMS.

5 Lessons Learned During our First Year as a Start-up

2/16/2020

There’s nothing easy about starting a new business. We started with a kernel of an idea, little cash, and an enormous learning curve. We are two moms who ditched our corporate careers to put our experience in design and marketing to work to create an amazing product that we would have a blast sharing with the world. After years of making other products look good, we wanted to create something so amazing it would shine on its own. We set out to break into one of the most competitive industries there is. Here are few things we learned during our first year out.

1 Focus is Everything

The details that you have to tend to when you are starting up are ENDLESS! When you only have two people to tackle product development, marketing, and business issues, focus is everything. It’s easy to blow the day working on all the fun things which may or may not be the most critical things.

One thing that has helped us stay focused is to dedicate a portion of every day to our most critical tasks. As a business, I mostly work on all things related to business and marketing while my partner manages all things product. No matter what I have on my list for the day, I try find three things I can do get us closer to our sales goals. Whether it is making progress on a campaign, reaching out to prospects, or getting our products listed in new places, I find three things I can get done on top of everything else on my list for the day.

Happy Valentine's Day to My Beautiful Wife

2/14/2020

Let's just file this one under #momstress wife fail. It's the day before Valentine's Day. I'm a frazzled mess trying to juggle all the work things while my kids have a five-day break from school - in the middle of February for the love of God! Since when does President's Day call for a full week off?! Pretty sure that went out with powdered wigs. Thanks Adams 12 school district for keeping the seldom-celebrated-outside-of-the-US-postal-service holiday alive!

I picked up some Valentine's goodies for the kids the week before, but had forgotten to get something for my husband  of 17 years. The day has gotten away from me like usual and I am left with only 30 minutes to run to the bank and post office and get something special for my better half before I need to Better Crocker some dinner onto the table and Uber the kids to sports.

How to Size a Cuff Bracelet - Find your Perfect Fit!

2/12/2020

How to Size Adjust the Size of a Cuff Bracelet
Cuff bracelets are normally sold in ‘one size fits most’ sizing. If your wrist is a little larger or smaller than average, you can still wear these beautiful accessories by adjusting them for a perfect fit.

Your ETTA JANE cuff can be adjusted to fit your wrist. You can wear it snug against your arm or loose around your wrist. Whichever you prefer, here’s how to put it on and lightly adjust it to your arm. You can adjust the cuff for different looks, but avoid excessive, repeated stretching and tightening to prolong the life of your cuff.
Before trying your cuff on for the first time, find the narrowest part of your wrist on the thumb-side of your hand. This is where your cuff will slide on.
ETTA JANE cuffs come with a roomy opening that will comfortably slide onto most wrists. If you need a little more room, take your cuff and very gently stretch the two ends apart, just wide enough to fit over the narrowest part of your wrist. To do this, use your hands to firmly grip each end of the cuff and gently pull the ends away from each other.
Next, turn your cuff sideways and slide it onto your wrist, turning your arm into the bracelet until it is correctly positioned.

To tighten your cuff, put your entire other hand over the cuff and gently squeeze just enough so the cuff won’t slide off, but you can still slip it off your wrist, reversing the process.  From here, you can slide your cuff up or down your arm for a tighter or looser fit.

Cuffs have a bold, chic look worn in singles or in stacks.
